About Karen Bodoano
Karen Bodoano’s unstoppable spirit and the resilient determination that has propelled her to the top of her innovative field of seniors’ relocation management were undoubtedly inherited from her beloved grandmother, a true force of nature remarkably ahead of her time.
Now, a trained professional organizer, Karen credits her unique experiences during thirty years as operations manager for Sentinel Self-Storage as the inspiration behind her current role as founder and CEO of Alberta’s Move Coordinators Inc., a business built on transforming the stressful complexities of home relocation into an easy, orderly and efficient one-stop-shop concept.
With her resolutely independent grandmother as a role model, Karen always had a natural affinity for the elderly. Working in the storage industry, she couldn’t help but notice that seniors were especially vulnerable, struggling with the intricacies involved in vacating the family home. She was appalled at the unfairness she saw going on with scurrilous, low-rate movers taking advantage of older adults who had no one to help them navigate the relocation process. Finally, Karen decided to step forward as an advocate herself, becoming a veritable pioneer in this new professional realm.
Establishing her business was only the beginning. Karen went on to thoroughly immerse herself in her newly chosen career, ultimately becoming the first certified senior move manager in Western Canada.
Much like her gramma before her broke new ground, making her way across the prairies, running a farm, home-birthing babies, Karen’s own bold, trail-blazing career move, generations later, subsequently gave birth to inventive ideas.
Working to build community connections, she set about facilitating every aspect of home organization and relocation for her clients, from packing, unpacking, disposal of unwanted items right on through to floor planning and furniture arrangement at their new place of residence.
Karen even masterminded an inventive online auction process, NewlyMine, specifically designed to help seniors sell downsized belongings more effectively.
Only the second Edmontonian to join NASMM, the National Association of Senior Move Managers, Karen is a key participant in their annual conferences, appearing in sessions as a speaker and workshop leader.
In the Spring of 2022, Karen will add published author to her list of achievements.
